8 ways to rock classy dresses.

Imagine walking and receiving admiring glances and compliments. You can get all the positive attention by wearing classy dresses and you don’t have to dress formally to achieve that.

Wear your classy dresses casually too. So let’s explore the different classy dresses available and how you can look and feel your best.

Know your style.

Ask yourself these questions: what kind of dresses do you have in your wardrobe? What era of dresses do you admire the most? Is it the 40s 50s, 60s or 70s? what kind of dresses do you feel most comfortable in? do you like flirty or conservative dresses” do you like bright or neutral colours”

All these will indicate what your style is. Most of the time, minimalist dresses are always seen as classy but other dresses can be classy too.

You just need to know how to style them to create that effect.

Choose the right material.

To rock classy dresses, choose dresses that are made with good quality fabrics. They usually last for a longer time if they are well taken care of and they make you look expensive.

An example of these fabrics is wool, linen, cotton, suede, satin, velvet and silk. Also, dresses made from chiffon can be very beautiful too.

Avoid synthetic fabrics like rayon, viscose and polyester. They can make your dress look cheap except they are made exceptionally well.

Also, choose dresses that are suitable for your environment too. Some dresses that are made with certain fabrics may be unsuitable for you because of the type of environment you live in.

Dreses that are made from wool or silk are great for cold places while dresses made with chiffon, linen and cotton are great for hot environments.

Dress for the occasion.

Before you are tempted to buy or wear that beautiful dress, you need to know what type of event you are attending and what dress will be suitable for it.

There is nothing as embarrassing as attending an event and looking totally out of place due to the type of dress you wore. So ask yourself these questions?

  • What type of event are you attending?

There is one factor you need to consider before you buy a dress. What kind of lifestyle do you have in the first place.

There is no point buying a beautiful cocktail dress when you don’t have an active evening social life or buying an office or pencil dress when you work from home.

A woman who works from home is free to choose any different styles of dresses since she is not restricted by any dress code.

A career woman like a lawyer or investment banker does not have that luxury.

These dresses below are examples of what a work from home can wear:

  1. Flowing dress
  2. Casual dress
  3. Mini dress

These are the examples of dresses for the corporate woman:

Choose the right colour.

Choosing the right colour of the dress can make or break your look. Generally, bright colours look great on dark-skinned ladies but they can also look good on light-skinned individuals depending on the individual.

But if you are not sure of what colour suits you s a person, you should wear colours that are found in nature because they compliment most skin tones. Examples of these colours are red, beige, green, black, purple, grey, off white, blue etc. Also wear neutral colours.

You don’t have to restrict yourself to neutral colours. You can ock prints, florals and patterned dresses. They can look classy too. You just have to be smart with your accessories to nail the look .Wear pastel coloured dresses. They look very feminine and beautiful.

Avoid artificial colours like magenta, Neal colours and extremely bright colours. They usually make your outfit look cheap.

Know where to shop.

Contrary to opinion, you don’t need a lot of money to buy classy dresses. You can find beautiful dresses in high street stores like Primark, Banana Republic or Gap for half the price. They can also find them in flea markets, charity stores, thrift/vintage stores and second-hand fashion sites like eBay.

Pay particular attention to the dress you are buying and make sure they are free of stains and are in good condition. Have them altered at a tailor to fit your body shape especially if they don’t fit in some area. Tailored dresses can make your outfit look custom made.

Find the right combination.

Sometimes, wearing a classy dress is not enough. You need to know how to combine your outfit with the right kind of accessories or colours to get the right look.

For example, you won’t carry a structured bag when you are wearing a flowing chiffon dress on the beach or carry a straw bag on a pencil dress.

There are certain rules you can follow to make your look more coordinated. They are:

  1. Don’t wear more than 3 colours at the same time.
  2. If you are wearing a multi-coloured dress, your accessories like shoes, bags and belts are one of the colours on the dress.

Choose dresses that suit your body shape.

Before you buy or wear a dress, ask yourself this question “does it hide my flaw and emphasize my assets?. You have to be able to answer this question because that beautiful dress you see in the store or on your friend may look horrible on you.

Not all dresses look on all body types. So to choose your perfect classy dress, you need to know what your body shape is and the type of dresses that suit your body shape.

The following examples below display the type of dresses that look good on each body shape:

  1. Hourglass
  2. Pear
  3. Inverted triangle
  4. Rectangle
